In WPCity we always try to get interviews from the WordPress business leaders. We are happy to have Adrian Spiac today as our guest,. He is one of the founders of Cozmoslabs and TranslatePress.
TranslatePress is one of the best WordPress translation plugins which allows translating WordPress sites directly from the front-end.
Adrian and his team have done a tremendous job of making the plugin super easy to use. TranslatePress has full support for WooCommerce, complex themes, and site builders.
From Adrian, we will try to know more about his plugin business and the importance of a multilingual website to rank the content super fast. We also try to get some advice for the new business owners.
Hello Adrian, Would You Like to Share Your Background Story With Our Audience? How Did You First Get Involved With WordPress and Why Did You Choose WordPress for Your Career?
My involvement with WordPress started about 11 years ago. I’ve just graduated and decided to embark on an entrepreneurship journey with one of my colleagues and friends, Cristian Antohe.
He was already doing some freelancing so we decided to offer web development services to clients looking to build an online presence.
That’s how we discovered WordPress and decided to focus on it exclusively. Madalin, our third co-founder joined a few years later as our lead developer, when we already started to work on releasing our own plugins and themes.
Our Audiences Will Love to Know the Background Story of Your Plugin Business. What Inspired You With the Idea of Cozmoslabs? And Why Do You Feel the Need for the New Plugins?
In the beginning, Cozmoslabs was just a blog, where we shared the things we learnt while providing WordPress design & development services.
We also wrote about some of the limitations of WordPress and offered solutions to overcome this. One of these limitations was user registration.
We found the default WordPress user registration system quite limiting and not that user friendly. Since this post got a lot of traffic and comments we decided to release a plugin that addressed this limitation.
That’s how Profile Builder- our all in one user registration and management plugin was born.
Since it was among the first (if not the first) front-end user registration solution available, Profile Builder got good traction right from the beginning.
The free version grew steadily and when we released the premium version it brought in sales right from day one.
This is when we started thinking seriously about working on developing and selling our own products.
You Have Built Several Plugins So Far. So Which One is Your Most Favorite? And What is the Reason Behind It?
Each plugin has its own place in our heart, because each one was a stepping stone in our journey as a company.
The revenue from Profile Builder premium versions allowed us to make the switch from a WordPress development company to building and supporting our own products.
Also, due to repeated requests from the users of Profile Builder, we decided to build our easy to set up a membership plugin, Paid Member Subscriptions. And make the two fully compatible.
WordPress Creation Kit was initially built to help us with our custom development projects and then turned into a powerful developer tool that saves both time and money.
Our latest multilingual plugin, TranslatePress is the most popular one we released to date – powering over 100.000 active websites.
I’m sure we couldn’t have built and successfully launched it without the previous knowledge from our other plugins.
We Want to Know More About Your Translation Plugin TranslatePress. How Did You Get the Idea of TranslatePress and the Importance of a Translation Plugin for WordPress Users?
TranslatePress was born out of our own frustration with some of the existing translation solutions for WordPress. While providing custom development services we worked on a lot of multilingual websites as well.
We found existing translation plugins can be hard to use for non-developers (had multiple interfaces for translating different types of content), translations were out of context sometimes and they also could severely affect your page loading time.
What Makes It Different From Other Translation Plugins? Why Do Users Prefer TranslatePress Rather Than Other Options?
The main differentiator for TranslatePress is its front-end visual translation interface. You can translate everything you see, directly from the front-end using an intuitive visual interface. Someone called it a page builder for translations.
This makes it really easy to use for anyone looking to build a multi-language website, without any prior coding or WordPress knowledge.
Would You Please Explain to Us How TranslatePress Helps the Users for SEO?
TranslatePress follows multilingual SEO best practises, helping your content rank in multiple languages.
We developed the SEO Pack add-on specifically for this, to make sure users can translate the most important SEO elements on every page while also being able to integrate TranslatePress with their favorite SEO plugin (we support all popular SEO plugins).
How Easily WordPress Users Can Use Your Plugins? Is It a Good Option for a Beginner Level WordPress User?
For us, usability and ease of use have always come before features. We prefer shipping fewer features and focusing more on a great user experience. So, I’d like to think all our plugins are really easy to use, but there’s always more we can do in this sense.
We constantly gather user feedback and try to incorporate it in the next plugin releases.
Could You Please Tell Us What Are the Common Mistakes Usually WordPress Users Make While They Create a Multilingual Site?
Not following multilingual SEO best practises, having content in multiple languages on the same page, using automatic translation without being revised by a native speaker.
Having quality translations, translating all key SEO elements while focusing on specific keywords in each language and setting up a multilingual sitemap will make sure your translated content ranks well and brings in more traffic.
Would You Like to Give Some Advice for the New Business Owners Who Are Using WordPress for Their Business?
WordPress is a safe bet when it comes to security, flexibility, and price. It won’t go anywhere anytime soon, it’s backed by a wonderful community and you can find a plugin for anything you might imagine.
Depending on the type of business you’re running, translating your WordPress site or e-commerce store in multiple languages can boost your traffic or revenue significantly.
Using the right tools, you’ll find that it’s not such a big investment and the upside can be quite high.
A multilingual website helps to rank the content in multiple languages. Adrian also encourages translating the website into multiple languages.
He said, “Translating your WordPress site or e-commerce store in multiple languages can boost your traffic or revenue significantly.”
To create a multilingual website, practicing the multilingual SEO best practices is essential. It helps to rank the content quickly.
Quality translations, translating all key SEO elements, and focusing on specific keywords in each language with a multilingual sitemap will make sure your translated content ranks well and brings in more traffic.
Before switching to a multilingual website, always try to find the best solution for the translation. A good solution should be easy to use and doesn’t affect the website loading speed.
