The product does not have to be 100% free either, you can offer a discount, and your customers will still love it. And you can promote your offer to get more customers interested.
Here’s a quick index to help you navigate this article:
Let’s get started.
What Will You Need?
In this tutorial, we are going to use the Advanced Coupons plugin to create a coupon for offering a buy one get one free deal to your customers. This kind of coupon is called ‘BOGO Deals.’
‘Advanced Coupons’ is the best WooCommerce coupon creator plugin on the market. It allows you to create amazing coupons for your WooCommerce store.
Create a ‘Buy One Get One Free’ Coupon in WooCommerce
To get started with us, first, you need to install the ‘Advanced Coupons’ plugin on your website. If you need help, you can follow our step by step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.
After installing the plugin, head over to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced Coupons tab. Once you’re in the tab, click on the link named ‘License.’
Here you’ll need to provide your product’s license key that you can get from your account on the Advanced Coupons website. After that, this plugin will be activated on your website.
Now, we will start creating the ‘BOGO Deal’. For that, go to WooCommerce > Coupons and click on the ‘Add Coupon’ button.

In the next step, you need to provide your coupon’s information. First, give a title to your coupon.
You can skip giving a title and generate a coupon code by clicking on the ‘Generate coupon code’ button if you want to.
This kind of auto-generated coupon code is not user friendly, however, because customers can’t remember this type of code at the time of placing an order.
If you provide a coupon title, this title will be used as the coupon code.
Additionally, you can also describe your coupon. It will become helpful later, when you have a lot of coupon codes on your WooCommerce store, to recognize which coupon is which.

After that, scroll down to the ‘Coupon Data’ section. Here, you need to select the type of coupon that you want to create. As we will create a buy one get one free coupon, we need to switch to the ‘Bogo Deals’ tab.
You can create various types of BOGO deals using the Advanced Coupons plugin. You need to select trigger types to create different types of coupons.
In the dropdown menu, you’ll find a total of three types of triggers that you can use:
- Specific Products (Free): Using this trigger, you can activate this BOGO deal only for particular products.
- Combination of Products (Premium): You can apply this coupon to those products which have variations. It can be used for multiple products as well.
- Product Categories (Premium): Choose this type of trigger to run BOGO deals for all the products of one or more categories.

For the sake of this tutorial, we are creating BOGO deals for specific products. Similarly, you can also create coupons for ‘Combination of products’ or ‘Product Categories.’
Next, click on the ‘Add Product’ button and choose one or more products for which you want to trigger the BOGO offer.
If you want to, you can add more than one product here. In that case, customers need to buy two products to get one more product free.
For example, if customers buy two T-shirts from your store, they will get one more T-shirt for free. To create this kind of coupon, increase the product quantity as you need to.
After selecting a product, click on the ‘Add’ button.
In the second row, you have to choose the product that you want to offer for free with the selected product from the first row. This could be the same product or a different product, or a range of products.
Notice that you don’t necessarily need to offer the following product for free. You can choose the discount type (Override price, a percentage discount, or a fixed discount) and set the amount of cost or discount for how much you want to offer.
For example, you can submit a 50% discount instead of providing the product for free.
After doing this, click on the ‘Add’ button.
In the image is an example of a deal where customers will get the same T-shirt for free if they buy the Red T-shirt.

If you create a deal for a single product, then it will be automatically added to your customer’s cart.
On the other hand, if you select ‘Any combination of products’ or a product category, then customers will need to choose a product that they like.
Now we come to the ‘Additional Settings’ option. From here, you can select whether the coupon can be used only once or repeatedly.
Furthermore, you can also add a note to your customers that they will see if they use BOGO deals. After changing this information, click ‘Save BOGO Deals’.

Now, look at the image that shows the cart page before applying the coupon that will charge 40 dollars for two T-shirts.

This time, look at the second image, which displays the cart page after applying the coupon. Here you can see that the customer has gotten the BOGO offer.
For that reason, 20 dollars have been deducted from the cart page total. This means he or she got two T-shirts for 20 dollars, which is equal to a single T-shirt’s price.
Now customers can smoothly proceed to checkout.

After completing the coupon creating process, you need to prompt this offer so that customers become acquainted about this offer and can use it.
You can promote this with lightweight popups, slide-in popups, a floating popup, a countdown timer, and more.
You can also use Optinmonster, which allows you to promote your service in many ways; it is the best conversion-optimized tool on the market.
Conclusion
You now know that you do not need to be a tech guru to create attractive BOGO deals for your customers. It’s an easy task that you can handle in minutes.
Generate a coupon code the customers will remember by giving your coupon a title. And be sure to add a description. It will make the coupons more manageable.
You can choose the products that you would want to apply the coupon and choose the type of discount you would want to offer.
Finally, make your customers know about your coupon by promoting it using popups. And you can create a sense of urgency using a countdown timer.
